I earned a B.F.A. in illustration from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1985. That was back in the dark ages, before the Macintosh was on every designer's desktop. Press-type, rubber cement, getting your hands dirty... ah, those were the days.
After art school, I worked as a graphic designer for a non-profit organization and later in the advertising department of a high tech company. It was here that I met my first Mac, and there's been no going back. I enjoyed pushing Quark 1.0 and MacDraw to their limits on my little Mac Plus.
The first illustration that I did on a computer (in MacPaint) c. 1987 In fact, I enjoyed playing with the computer more than being a graphic designer. So, when it was time to move on, I accepted a job in a type-setting shop that was just starting to experiment with desktop computers. I got in on the ground floor as the company developed into a color pre-press shop and I did everything including operating a drum scanner, making Fuji proofs, retouching, etc., etc.
Eventually I figured out that people who are good with computers aren't necessarily artists and vice versa. And that's where my strength lies: combining my technical expertise with my artistic sensibilities. In 1994 I struck out on my own and since then I've been doing work for ad agencies and corporate clients, mostly around the Boston area.
I invite you to take a look at my online portfolio and get an idea of what I can do. And I look forward to working with you.
